About Our Tennis Club

Churston Tennis Club has provided an idyllic setting for keen tennis players for nearly 50 years and continues to run as a successful social club throughout the year for our dedicated members.

The land was acquired in 1976 by local pharmacist and businessman Terry George Morgan from the Churston Court Hotel. Before its acquisition, the land served as a garden to provide produce for Churston’s Manor House which ·s why it is enclosed by a remarkable 250-300-Year-Old Wall.

Upon its purchase, in the 1970s the land went from an overgrown space with no running water or electrics to a landscaped and picturesque garden where Terry could accommodate his passion for tennis. Even though the courts were intended for private use the decision was made in 1977 to open Churston Tennis Club up to the public and they have been running ever since with one or two original members still playing to this day.

Following the death of Terry in 1995 the courts continued to be run by his family, all of which have carried on his enthusiasm for tennis and the club. The courts are regularly maintained and have recently undergone expenditure on their surface with plans for further improvements to be made over the next coming year.

Churston Tennis Club has been a labour of love throughout the last five decades, not only for our family but also for our devoted members, all of which we extend a thank you to for helping us run the courts over the years.
We hope you enjoy our facilities as much as we do, and we look forward to the next fifty years with you.

Regards,

The Morgan family.
